Jan Sluyters pastel painting on paper mounted to cardboard depicting Venus and Cupid in front of a mirror. Possibly a study sketch for his larger work. Signed lower right.
Johannes Carolus Bernardus Sluijters, or Sluyters was a Dutch painter and co-founder of the Moderne Kunstkring. Sluijters was a leading pioneer of various Post-Impressionist movements in the Netherlands. He experimented with several styles, including Fauvism and Cubism, finally settling on a colorful expressionism.
