NO RESERVE Jean Droit signed French school painting watercolor with gouache and graphite on paper showing a young woman at an open window. Pencil signed “Jean Droit, ” beneath the matting. A. Jouvenot, Paris framer’s label on the reverse.
Artist Bio: Jean Droit (French, 1884–1961) was a painter, illustrator, and graphic artist known for his lively genre scenes, posters, and book and magazine illustrations. Born in Laneuveville-devant-Nancy and raised partly in Belgium, he served as a soldier in World War I, sending drawings from the front and designing powerful patriotic posters.
Droit later became closely involved with youth and scouting movements in France and Belgium, producing imagery for the Red Cross and various scouting organizations. His work ranges from romantic and humorous figure subjects to travel and advertising posters
