Keywords: Old Master portrait, 17th century painting, Flemish school, Dutch Golden Age, ruff collar portrait, oil on canvas, nobleman portrait, coat of arms, antique carved giltwood frame, Baroque art, European aristocracy, manuscript in hand

Oil on canvas panel of a noble gentleman, 17th century in the style of the Dutch or Flemish Old Masters. The sitter is depicted three-quarter length, wearing a dark formal robe with an elaborate white ruff collar, and holding a manuscript or ledger in his left hand. A family coat of arms appears in the upper right corner: Inscribed “Anno 1630, Aetatis Suae 50”, the portrait records the sitter at 50 years of age in the year 1630.

The painting is housed in an ornate Baroque giltwood frame with deep openwork scrolling foliage. Fine details are visible in the lace cuffs, facial modeling, and transparency of the ruff, all characteristic of Northern European portraiture of the period.

A refined and historically engaging work, likely representing a nobleman or learned figure.
