Summary:

Important Alexander Archipenko 28" tall bronze modernist sculpture of a stylized standing female figure with cubist abstraction, signed “Archipenko Paris 1914” and marked 6/8 F

Bio: Alexander Archipenko (Ukrainian-American, 1887–1964) was a pioneering modernist sculptor known for introducing Cubism into three-dimensional art. Born in Kyiv and later working in Paris alongside artists like Picasso and Braque, he broke from classical traditions by using abstraction, hollowed forms, and geometric planes to redefine the human figure. Archipenko immigrated to the United States in 1923, where he continued to teach and exhibit widely. His innovative use of negative space and stylized volumes made him one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century.
