Keywords: No reserve, Plains Indian, Cheyenne, Sioux, Indigenous American, ethnographic clothing, ceremonial regalia, beaded hide, glass trade beads, fringe detail, hairlock tassels, powwow attire, tribal artistry, handmade garments, museum quality, collector piece

Summary:

Native American Plains Indian ceremonial fine beaded hide shirt and leggings set, 20th century, possibly Cheyenne or Sioux. Gray hide construction with long fringe, beaded chest and sleeve panels executed in geometric patterns using multicolor glass trade beads. Accented with hairlock tassels and accompanied by a matching fine beaded neckpiece.

Shirt: approx. 43" l (including fringe) x 56.5" w (sleeve to sleeve).

Leggings: approx. 39" l x 12" w.

Neckpiece: approx. 5" l x 12.5" w (excluding hairlocks).

Provenance: The Iris Apfel Collection.

(Overall good to fair condition with age-appropriate wear. Visible staining and surface marks to the hide, along with some discoloration to the beadwork and areas of yellowed adhesive residue. Minor separations and small tears to the hide are present, and edges appear irregularly cut. Some fringe and hairlock tassels are missing, and the ensemble may be incomplete or lacking certain original elements. Despite these issues, the piece remains well preserved overall.)
