Description
Exceptional art nouveau/art deco double sided oil painted 4 panel room divider/screen. The work is unsigned but looks like the works of Howard Chandler Christy, Edward Howard Blashfield or Edward Eggleston. At first glance the work resembles works by Maxfield Parrish, in terms of form, color palette and subject matter, We cannot attribute it, but it is an exceptional piece dating from the beginning of the 20th century. The title of the work "Les Iles Enchentees".is a likely reference to the Shakespeare plays "The Tempest" and the "Midsummer’s Night Dream"..which saw a great revival of interest around the time this work was created …and after an early short film was released in 1908 67"H x 64"W
