Peter W. Rogers (English/American, 1933-2018) Late 20th century oil painting on panel, depicting an angel bearing offerings to sleeping figures and horse. Signed lower left PWR ’93.
Born in london, Rogers studied at st martin’s school of art, 1954–6. His work was devoted to religious and spiritual painting and his art drew on buddhist, classical as well as christian sources. In 1957 he was elected a member of the royal society of british artists, and starting in 1960, Arthur Tooth & Sons became his exclusive dealer in london. In 1962 he moved to spain and while there, met Carol Hurd, daughter of the painters, Peter Hurd and Henriette Wyeth Hurd. Moving to the united states in 1963, he and Carol were married and lived in patricio, as well as santa fe, new mexico.
Panel -16 3/4" high x 15 1/4" wide. Frame – 23 1/4" high x 22" wide.
Condition: Very good. Minor wear to the gilt frame. Framed behind glass, Â in giltwood moulding with linen mat.
