Description

Andy Warhol (American, 1928 – 1987), Campbell Soup, Andy Warhol pencil signed lower right, gallery impressed stamp lower right "LEO CASTELLI GALLERY 4 EAST 77TH NEW YORK 10021". Unframed approx. 34" x 21" Approx, Framed 36.5" x 23.5" Approx. Campbell’s Soup I: Tomato 46 is probably the most recognizable out of all soup cans in Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup I portfolio. Tomato soup was Campbell’s first release and continues to be a popular flavor today. Warhol continuously took everyday consumer goods and turned them into high art.The tomato soup can was also the first that inspired Warhol to play with the imagery when he got the idea to create the screenprints. One of the reasons that Andy Warhol chose to feature Campbell’s Soup was because of his fascination with consumer items and the claim that he had eaten Campbell’s Soup for lunch for most of his life.
