Italian Pietra Dura Plaque mid to late 19th century. Various colored stones inset to render a female practicing textile arts; well carved period oval frame. Sight: 6.5" height, 4.75" width; frame: 12.5" height. 10.75" width. Pietra dura is an Italian phrase that means "hard stone, " and usually refers to the technique of creating intricate inlaid pictures from shaped colored stones.
