Raymond Crawford Ewer Lower East Side, 1914 Signed Raymond Crawford Ewer and dated 1914 (lr) Oil on canvas 24 x36 inches "Summer days on New York’s East Side " Published in Puck, v. 76, no. 1954 (1914 August 15), as the centerfold, painting shows a crowded street between tenement buildings, with street vendors lining the street, also vignette views of storefronts, vendors, and a social gathering on a street corner, possibly around a photographer. 24"H x 36"W. see library of congress website for more about this. Raymond Crawford Ewer (b. October 1888) had a very short career. His earliest professional work began appearing around 1908 and his last known pieces are dated 1915. Within those short eight years, Ewer’s work really sparked interest. especially when he began contributing to various publications, including Judge and Puck. It was within the pages of these magazines that Ewer drew what might be considered his strongest, most mature work. This is a late mature work in good condition.
