Ancient mosaic panel depicting a stylized mask or theatrical head within a circular medallion, bordered by a geometric frame in red, gray, and cream tesserae. The face is built from hand-cut stone and marble tesserae in natural tones with defined eyes, brows, and draped hair. The surrounding border uses repeating bands of contrasting color in the classical Roman manner.
The section was recovered from an earlier architectural or floor mosaic, reset and mounted on a later mortar / cement backing for stability and display. Surface shows age-appropriate wear, minor losses, and old restorations. Presented as a self-contained square plaque for wall or tabletop display. Likely late Roman / Byzantine tradition, with later reassembly and framing for study or decorative use.
