Artist Bio: Jean Leon Gerome Ferris was an American painter known for depicting American history through art. His most notable work, The Pageant of a Nation, reflects the tradition of genre painting in the U.S. Ferris studied at the Pennsylvania Academy and in Europe with artists like Adolphe Bouguereau and Jean Leon Gerome. His style, influenced by the Victorian era, focused on historical accuracy and humanistic portrayal. Ferris’ works were exhibited at Congress Hall in Philadelphia and were also featured in books and magazines. His dedication to historical painting has left a lasting impact on American art.
