Large Art Deco figural composition of a costumed performer in a pink dress against a blue ground. Signed Paul Charlemagne lower right; titled and dated Agnes in Pink / Aout 36 on the reverse.
Paris-born painter and decorative artist, Charlemagne studied at the Ecole de Montparnasse and Academie de la Grande Chaumiere. His career encompassed painting, theatre decor, ceramics, and illustration, with regular exhibitions at the Salon des Independants and Salon dAutomne. Known for his figurative and Art Deco-inspired works, he was awarded the Prix Blumenthal in 1923 and later named an Officer of the Legion dhonneur.
