Artist Bio:

Jean-Gabriel Domergue (18891962) was a French painter specializing in portraits of Parisian women. He was born in Bordeaux and studied at the Ecole nationale superieure des Beaux-Arts.

At the young age of seventeen, in 1906, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais. In 1911, he was awarded second prize in the Prix de Rome and later received the gold medal in 1920.

From the 1920s onward, Domergue became known as the painter of the Parisian lady. Many of his works depicted elegant women, often in refined or sensual poses, and he famously claimed to be the inventor of the pin-up. Domergues figures were characterized by their slender, graceful forms, swanlike necks, and wide, expressive eyesan aesthetic that defined his vision of feminine allure and sophistication.
