Signed "Fr. M", oil on panel, depicting the Kosciuszko Monument near West Point on the Hudson River/New York.
West Point in a summer mood, with original Kosciuszk inaugurated in 1828
Historical Note: Polish-American national hero Tadeusz Kosciuszko (17461817) played a significant role in the American Revolutionary War of 17761783. In 17781780, he notably designed the defenses of the West Point garrison, which George Washington considered the most important military base in America. In 1783, the U.S. Congress granted Kosciuszko the rank of brigadier general and U.S. citizenship.
