Description
Simon Henningsen Mid Century Tivoli Ceiling Lamp with Dual Pendants. MEASURES 12"H X 9"W Approx. Like his father Poul Henningsen, Simon P Henningsen (1920–1974) studied architecture but never graduated, becoming diverted into practical projects. As a student he worked with his father at Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens, and in 1948 he was appointed to the position of head architect at Tivoli. He remained at Tivoli for the next 25 years, and it was for one of the restaurants in the Gardens that he created his most famous light, the eponymous Divan II. Henningsen died at just 54 years of age, so his active career was relatively short and the lights he designed emerged from a period spanning only a decade, from the mid 1950s to the mid 1960s. He probably didn’t even see himself primarily as a lighting designer – his life’s work was Tivoli, and the lighting designs were just one part of that project.
