Romain Erte De Tirtoff/Erté (Russian/French, 1892-1990). ‘After The Rain’. Artists Proof lithograph. Marked AP lower left in pencil. Signed lower right Erté in pencil. Printed on circle fine art paper.
Erté is famous for his elegant fashion designs which captured the art deco period in which he worked. His delicate figures and sophisticated designs are instantly recognizable, and his ideas continue to influence fashion into the 21st century. His costumes, program designs, and sets were featured in the many stage performances. In 1925, Louis B. Mayer brought him to Hollywood to design sets and costumes for the silent film ‘Paris’, as well as ‘Ben-Hur’, among others. Erté continued working throughout his life, designing for revues, ballets, and operas. He experienced a major rebirth of interest in his work during the 1960’s with the art deco revival as he branched out into the realm of limited edition prints, bronzes, and wearable art.
