Description
Signed Vladimir Fuka Hervrt, Two Miniatures of Paris Street Scenes. Watercolor, Gouache & Pencil on Paper
Valdimir Fuka Hervert (Czech/American, 1926-1977). Two miniature paintings depicting paris street views, one being place picalle. Watercolor & gouache painting with pencil on paper. The larger is signed upper upper right, Fuka Hervert. The smaller signed with initials FH upper left.
Hervert was czechoslovakian-born american artist known for his children’s book illustrations. He illustrated for macmillan, mcGraw-hill, and doubleday. He was the author of ‘Imaginary Portraits’, a series of drawings and collages inspired by his favorite artists and writers. When he defected from czechsolovakia in 1966, his works were removed from the prague gallery of modern art and pulled from the eastern european book market. Fuka was a graduate of the arts academy of prague, and won first prize at the international illustration exhibition in bologna, italy in 1965.
The larger 5 3/4" high x 5 1/2" wide. The second, 31/4" x 5 1/2" wide. Both are presently framed between two sheets of glass, 14 1/2" high x 9 1/8" wide.
Condition: Both mounted to paper board, between two panes of glass, and are in very good condition.
