Signed Sandor Leopold Landeau, ‘Evening Scene’. Art Nouveau Oil on Canvas in Giltwood Frame
Signed Sandor Leopold Landeau (Hungarian/American, 1864 – 1924). ‘Evening Scene’, oil on canvas painting depicting maidens in an evening garden. A nicely framed period art nouveau/arts and crafts oil painting on canvas, signed "S.L. Landeau’, lower right. The reticulated gilt wood frame, nicely carved with scroll and shell.
Noted painter, muralist, graphic & stained glass designer and teacher, Landeau is known for his works in oil of religious paintings, landscapes, marine scenes, portraits, plein air painting, and genre scenes from regions such as france, italy, palestine, greece and the united states. Labdeau studied with Jean Paul Laurens and Benjamin Jean-Joseph Constant at the academie julian in paris, france. He joined Elbert Hubbard’s roycroft community of arts & crafts artisans in east aurora, ny in 1915, and remained there until his death in 1924. His exhibition record is extensive and his works are held in many major public and private collections, including the smithsonian museum of american art and the buffalo AKG art museum.
Canvas – 20" high x 24 1/4" wide. Frame – 29" high x 34" wide.

Condition: Very good, no restorations to canvas. Nicely gilt wood frame with good surface with some very minor abrasions.
