Signed Leon Dusso D’Usseau, Male & Female Busts. Oil on Board
Leon Dusso D’Usseau (American, 1918 -1991). Oil painting on board depicting a frieze of male and female busts, signed lower right, ‘Dusso’.
Born in los angeles, ca in 1918, D’Usseau studied under Merrill Gage and Archipenko at the chouinard art institute, starting at the age of fifteen. He was also a protege of Paul Blaine Henri. His paintings have been used in the sets for films such as, ‘The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit’, and ‘Anything Goes’. Exhibition history includes: the los angeles county museum of art, 1937-40; the california palace for the legion of honor; the los angeles art association, 1944; the audubon assoc., 1945; the california watercolor society, 1946, among others. Museum collections include marshall field and palmer house (chicago), and the dallas museum of art.
Board – 23 1/2" h high x 36" wide. Frame – 25 1/2" high x 38" wide.
Condition: Two very small areas of in-painting. Otherwise, very good.
