Description
Impressive Signed Miguel Pineda 20th Century Enameled Silverplate Center Bowl
Signed Miguel Pineda (Mexican, born 1940). Enameled silverplate center bowl having hummingbird and floral/vine relief decoration to body. Raised on three owl form feet. Signed to body of underside of bowl, Miguel Pineda (please refer to photos).
Miguel Pineda Godoy was born in mexico city and was introduced to enameling by Maggie Howe, an american born artist who opened an enamel work shop in the mexican capital. Pineda studied with her from 1958 to 1960 and afterwards he devoted himself to learning new techniques and specialized in cloisonné, champlevé, sgrafitto and painted enamel.
His body of work is comprised of jewelry, trays, vases, plates, pitchers and chalices, in copper with silver or 24k gold plate. His designs include a wide variety of pre-columbian scenes and idols based on the mayan and aztec codices, modern abstract art, byzantine, orthodox and catholic images.
7 1/2" high x 12" diameter.
Condition: The exterior is very good. The enamel work having no chips, breaks to the exterior. Loses to the interior enamel. Two of the owl body feet are a bit loose. Please refer to photos.
