Art has been a lifelong involvement for Dr. Jack Adler, a child and family therapist, educator, and author of books on the treatment of emotionally disturbed children. His artistic journey began during his Junior High School years at P.S. 45 in the Bronx, where he participated in Dr. Engelo Patri’s art education program. Throughout his academic years, Dr. Adler’s passion for art grew, particularly through his association and work with a group of artists in the 1940s under the guidance of Moi Solotoroff, a renowned painter and theatre arts designer. In the mid-1950s, he also studied and worked in sculpture under the mentorship of Mvril Adler, a noted artist and art educator.
Residing in Briarcliff Manor, Dr. Adler has exhibited his sculptures extensively throughout Westchester, including at the Westchester Art Society Galleries, Gallimaufry Fine Arts Gallery, Briarcliff College Gallery, Scarborough Gallery, Images Gallery, and other venues. His sculptures can be found in private collections across New York State, New Jersey, Florida, and Illinois. He is an active member of the Westchester Art Society and Hudson River Contemporary Artists.
Dr. Adler’s sculptures, crafted from wood and stone, reflect his fascination with textures. The semi-abstract sculptures, highly polished and resembling the rounded forms and surfaces of wave-shaped objects, reveal the diverse patterns inherent in the materials. The textures are explored and varied, and alabaster sculptures are often illuminated from within, creating a play of light that permeates the inner depths of the stone.
One can observe Dr. Adler’s deep connection with nature in the undulating movements of his animal, bird, shell, and plant sculptures.
