Description
Large LeGras French Art Deco Art Glass Vase, Circa 1920’s
Monumental LeGras-signed vase. Glass, overlaid, acid-etched and enamelled in art deco design over a light blue and white ground. Signed ‘Legras’ to body of vase. Provenance: Collection of Carlton Dailey.
Known for cameo glass and enamel-decorated glass with art nouveau designs, Auguste Legras assumed control of the St. Denis glassworks in 1864. With his sons, Charles and Théodore Legras involved in design and production, the company won grand prix at the 1889 paris universal exhibition. He was succeeded by Charles in 1909. Charles then signed a contract with Rene Lalique to produce his Coty perfume bottles. Starting in the 1920’s the company started producing glass having art deco motifs. Production ended sometime in the late 20’s.
21" high x 8" diameter.
Condition: Very good, no chips, breaks. Ground pontil.
