Signed Stuart Davis (after) Pad #4 Color Screenprint FROM SMALL EDITION. We list it as "after" because it is one of a multiple from a limited edition and post dates the original painting.
From the Marshall and Kay J. Lee Collection. Marshall was Vice President of Harry N Abrams, the leading publisher of large format art books.
Davis was well known for his jazz-influenced, proto-pop art paintings of the 1940s and 1950s, bold, brash, and colorful, as well as his Ashcan School pictures in the early years of the 20th century. This print is is part of an edition of approximately only 50. Published by Esther Gentle, New York. "Pad #4" is one of a series of four related pictures that Stuart Davis made while working on "The Mellow Pad", a painting in the Brooklyn Museum’s collection.
