Gabriel Robin, a French artist born in 1902 in Nantes and died in 1970 in Aulnay-sous-Bois, made significant contributions to painting and drawing, aligning with Cubism, Fauvism, and Impressionism. Starting with manual labor, Robin eventually pursued art at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Belleville and joined the influential École de Paris. Although initially successful with styles inspired by Impressionism and Fauvism, a later shift in his approach led to decreased market interest. Nonetheless, he remained active, showcasing his work internationally, including Paris, Lyon, and Tokyo, and was supported by art dealer Paul Rosenberg. Despite World War II challenges, Robin’s diverse output spanned painting, charcoal, and costume design, earning places in collections like the Musée du Louvre. An advocate for bringing poetry to the suburbs through the Orphéon group, his themes included athletics and war. Posthumously, Robin’s legacy was honored with retrospectives in Aulnay-sous-Bois and at the Roger Vitrac festival
