A tall abstract carved antelope dance crest with wide openwork carved crest. Incised details overall. Historic and Well carved and the largest example that we have seen. Mali, Africa.

Such headdresses, known as "Ci Wara, " represent an antelope and are an iconic symbol in Bambara culture. They are used in ceremonial dances and are associated with agriculture, symbolizing the antelope teaching humans how to farm.

The sculpture typically combines abstract shapes that represent both the antelope and the sun, emphasizing the importance of these elements to agriculture and life. The long, upward-reaching curve in the sculpture represents the horns of the antelope, which are often elongated and stylized in Ci Wara art.
