Richard Geiger Oil on canvaspainting, signed lower left. Features Columbine, a figure from Commedia dell’Arte, surrounded by joyous companions in similarly festive attire. Early 20th Century.
Bio: Richard Geiger, a Hungarian painter, draftsman and graphic artist, attended the drawing school and then the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He later studied at the Académie Julian in Paris. By 1896 he had settled in Budapest. In the 1920s, he illustrated numerous books, created bookplates and posters. He also painted portraits, nudes as well as genre paintings and mythological scenes. He became known primarily through his carnival motifs.
