Artist Bio: Renowned as one of the most significant French artists of the Art Deco period, Buthaud worked extensively in ceramics, employing crackle glazes and unique decorative techniques, including his signature “peau de serpent” (snakeskin) effect. His works often drew influence from African tribal art and frequently featured painted depictions of reclining female nudes. Examples of his work are held in prominent institutions such as the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
