Description

Keywords: limited edition, Artcurial, Romanian artist, abstract art, Kandinsky Prize, geometric design, collectible jewelry, Alexandre Istrati, Brancusi legacy.

Natalia Dumitresco studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest, where she married sculptor Alexandre Istrati in 1939. As a neighbor and close friend of Constantin Brancusi, she, along with her husband, became his universal legatee and played a crucial role in securing his institutional recognition. This effort included the publication of a significant monograph on Brancusi in 1986.

Already well-established in Romanian art circles and influenced by Kandinsky—earning the Kandinsky Prize in 1955—Dumitresco quickly gained recognition within the post-war French abstract movement. Her work, characterized by austerity and precision, shares affinities with Vieira da Silva’s approach. Through structured compositions of geometric elements—squares, grids, striations, meshes, circles, rectangles, and rhombuses—she created a dynamic interplay of light and void, where form and color remain inseparable.
