Saint Margaret slaying the dragon oil on canvas painting is attributed to Giulio Romano, an Italian painter and architect. This work closely relates to a painting in the Louvre collection also attributed to Romano.

Artist Bio: Giulio Romano (c. 1499 – 1546) was a pupil of Raphael and contributed significantly to the spread of 16th-century Italian style throughout Europe. Known for his stylistic deviations from high Renaissance classicism, Romano’s work helped define Mannerism. He collaborated on numerous Vatican frescoes, including those in Raphael’s Stanze and the ceiling of the Villa Farnesina.

Provenance: Formerly held in storage in France.
