Signed J. Desboas Art Nouveau Bronze Jardinere
Artist Bio: Jules Desbois Bronze footed centerpiece. This Jardiniere is signed J. Desbois, who was a French sculptor born on December 20, 1851, in Par?ay-les-Pins, France, and passed away on October 2, 1935, in Paris, France. He is known for his contributions to sculpture and his association with the Art Nouveau movement. Desbois studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Angers before moving on to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris after being selected for further studies. His first exhibition at the Salon came in 1875 with a piece titled "Orpheus."
Desbois was a collaborator and follower of the famous sculptor Auguste Rodin. His work is noted for its association with Art Nouveau and his expertise in the sculptural technique known as "en taille directe, " which is a method of carving directly without a model. His sculptures were offered at auction multiple times, with prices varying widely depending on the piece.
