Emil Ganso (American, 1895-1941) “Sunbath, ” an oil on panel painting signed in the lower right corner.
Artist Bio: Emil Ganso was a German-born American painter and printmaker known for his mastery of various mediums, including oil, watercolor, and lithography. Born in Halberstadt, Germany, Ganso emigrated to the United States in 1912, settling in New York City. Initially working as a baker to support himself, he pursued art in his free time, eventually gaining recognition in the 1920s.
He became associated with the Woodstock Art Colony in New York and exhibited widely during his career, including at prestigious institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. In 1933, he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, which allowed him to study art in Europe.
