Jean Dufy French Modernist Artist Signed, titled "Edinburgh", Ink Drawing. Christie’s tag on the verso.

Artist Bio: Jean Dufy (1888-1964) was a French artist from an arts-oriented family, including his brother, the renowned Raoul Dufy. Encouraged by Raoul, Jean developed his talent early and studied at Le Havre’s l’Ecole des Beaux Arts before moving to Paris, where he was influenced by Cubists like Picasso and Braque. His work, often compared to his brother’s, featured Parisian scenes, landscapes, and musical themes, reflecting his love for jazz and classical music. Dufy also designed textiles, painted porcelain for Haviland, and won a gold medal at the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts. He exhibited widely, including at the Salon d’Automne, and collaborated with Raoul on a mural for the 1937 World’s Fair. Jean Dufy spent his later years traveling and painting, leaving behind a legacy of vibrant, rhythmic compositions.
