Born in Iowa, Edwards spent much of his career in New York, where he developed a distinctive style characterized by free-flowing, calligraphic strokes that captured the essence of the natural world.

Edwards’s work was recognized during his lifetime, with exhibitions at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Notably, he participated in MoMA’s “New Horizons in American Art” exhibition in 1936 and the “Four American Traveling Exhibitions” in 1940.
