Late 17th to Early 18th century French baroque oil painting on canvas, depicting the biblical trial of Christ before Pontius Pilate. Titled Christ in the Praetorium. A large cartouche below contains a formal decree in French describing the judgment passed on Jesus of Nazareth, citing his presentation to the synagogue and his condemnation to crucifixion. The scroll references Barabbas and Calvary (Golgotha). Additional inscriptions within the composition offer witness notes or possible dedications.
