Léon Leyritz (Léon Albert Marie de Leyritz, 1888-1976), tea service in beige and iridescent blue glazed stoneware consisting of a teapot, a sugar bowl, two milk pots, six cups, and six saucers. Signed and marked under each piece. His works have sold at auction for as high as $144,000. Leyritz also decorated many theaters and productions, notably for the Comedies des Champs-Elysée, and Theatre Saint-George. (One lid missing)

The composer Maurice Ravel was a great friend of Leyritz; they met in 1927 when Leyritz asked to create a bust of Ravel. The bust is now on display at the Palais Garnier. After Ravel’s death, Leyritz followed his wishes and designed the décor for the final ballet, which was eventually staged at the Opera with this décor in 1941. Leyritz created sculptures for Art Deco interiors. His use of the Cubist style was similar to that of Jan and Joel Martel. Leyritz died on March 26, 1976, in Fréjus, a town on the Côte D’Azure in the South of France.
