Important French 18th century oil on canvas painting "Venus Bringing Armor to Aeneas", strongly attributed to Charles-Antoine Coypel (1694-1752). "Coypel" on an old label. This work reflects Coypel’s influence as a prominent painter, art commentator, and playwright in 18th century Paris.

Artist Bio: As the son of Antoine Coypel and grandson of Noel Coypel, Charles-Antoine inherited the role of premier peintre du roi (First Painter to the King) in 1722. He became the director of the Academie Royale in 1747 and received numerous commissions for the Palais de Versailles, also working for Madame de Pompadour.
