Gustave Poetzsch (1870–1950), “The Volcanoes of Haute-Loire.” Atmospheric oil on canvas depicting a panoramic volcanic landscape under a sweeping sky. Studio stamp present on both the reverse of the canvas and stretcher.
Bio:
Gustave Poetzsch (1870–1950) was a French painter, best known for his landscapes, architectural views, and scenes of Paris and the French countryside. Working mainly in watercolor and oil, he had a precise, delicate style with an emphasis on light, atmosphere, and subtle tonal values. Poetzsch exhibited at the Paris Salon and other French exhibitions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, gaining recognition for his refined technique and picturesque depictions of urban and rural life. His works are sought after for their charm, attention to detail, and evocative portrayal of early 20th-century France.
