Summary:

Important octagonal marquetry table depicting France’s accomplishments around the world. Made for exhibition in honor for the Paris Exhibition Universal which also unveiled the Eiffel Tower, which is depicted in one vignette on the table surface.

France distinguished itself during the19th century through its technical progress and our table thus depicts it’s glories in amazing inlaid vignettes The Pyramids of Egypt, inlaid with a steamboat symbolizing the construction of the Suez Canal, inlays depicting it’s colonies in Africa, and Indochina, a steam engine symbolizing the first journey from Paris to Constantinople of the Orient Express and a vignette inlaid with a depiction of Gustave Eiffel’s Incredible tower. The pull-out pivot drawers are inlaid decorated with the flags of the nations of the world.
