Summary:
Rare Chinese Ming glazed ceramic vase with molded dragon and cloud decoration. The vessel features a rich blue turquoise glaze with dark purple aubergine accents, relief dragons encircling the shoulder, scrolling cloud forms, and a Buddhist-style arched inscription panel. Raised on a separate lotus-form base with purple and green glaze. The inscription, transcribed as D” M”ng Ch”ng Hu” Yu”n Ni”n y”ow”n G”ng zh” W”i, could be translated as: “the first year of the Chenghua era (1465) of the great Ming, under the authority of the lord of literature Yao.” This is very likely a donation that would have been made to a temple.
