Summary:
Karl Pierre Daubigny (French, 1846–1886) 19th century oil on panel landscape painting depicting a dramatic rural river landscape beneath a stormy, cloud-filled sky. Signed lower right and presented in an ornate gilt frame with artist name plaque.
Karl Pierre Daubigny was the son of the highly regarded French landscape painter Charles François Daubigny. Taught by his father and embracing a similar aesthetic, Karl Daubigny traveled throughout the French countryside painting landscapes and river views.
Works by Karl Daubigny are represented in museum collections including Aix: Le Retour de la Peche; Amiens: Les Dunes de Saint-Quentin; Bayonne: Paysage; Berlin: Paysage; Brest: Bord de l’Oise, 1873, and Bords de la Seine; Honfleur: Paysage; and Le Havre: Vue de riviere, among others.
