Józef Popczyk (Polish, 1890–1971), ‘Chaptal College rue de Rome, ’ oil on cardboard painting depicting a bustling Parisian street scene with figures, vehicles and architecture rendered in a luminous Post-Impressionist manner. Signed at the lower left.

Józef Popczyk studied architecture at the Lviv Polytechnic but devoted his life to painting. Around 1915, he moved to Paris. His earlier works were painted in a Post-Impressionist style, later turning toward Cubism and abstraction during the 1920s.
