Summary:
Cav. Sante Crucianelli & Figli, antique Italian button accordion, Castelfidardo, Ancona, circa 1910–1920. Finely constructed wooden case embellished with extensive geometric marquetry and contrasting wood inlay, black bellows, mother-of-pearl button fittings, and leather carrying straps.
The inset manufacturer’s label reads in part “Premiata Fabbrica di Armoniche / Cav. Sante Crucianelli & Figli / Cavaliere della Corona d’Italia / Castelfidardo (Ancona), Italia, ” and is decorated with numerous medals and award emblems.
Sante Crucianelli established his accordion manufacturing firm in Castelfidardo in 1888, during the city’s emergence as an important center of Italian accordion production. Comparable surviving Crucianelli instruments are dated to the opening decades of the 20th century, including examples identified circa 1910 and circa 1920.
Accompanied by its original or period fitted canvas carrying case with leather straps. The case survives in heavily worn and distressed condition. Instrument functionality has not been tested and is not guaranteed.
