Summary:
Pierre-Laurent Brenot (French, 1913–1998). Oil on canvas titled “Adé I, ” depicting a stylized portrait of a woman. Signed and titled on the reverse “ADE I / par P.L. / BRENOT.”

Pierre-Laurent Brenot was born in Paris in 1913 and studied at the École Estienne before becoming a student of French fashion illustrator Fernand Hertenberger. Brenot developed a successful career as a fashion illustrator, creating drawings for leading fashion houses including Dior, Balenciaga, Nina Ricci, and Lanvin. During the 1940s he also pursued work as a poster artist and illustrator before increasingly returning to painting.
