Summary:
Olga Vladimirovna Rozanova (Russian, 1886–1918), ‘Composition, ’ watercolor and pencil on paper. Abstract geometric composition constructed from intersecting angular forms in black, yellow, red, brown, and gray. Signed lower right. The reverse has a confirmation/attribution from Valery A. Dudakov. Provenance: Valery A. Dudakov.
Rozanova was a major figure of the Russian avant-garde whose work developed through Futurism and Cubo-Futurism toward increasingly non-objective and Suprematist abstraction. She worked closely with Futurist poet Aleksei Kruchenykh, illustrating experimental books and poetry, and by the later 1910s developed a highly individual approach centered on geometric form and color. Comparable documented works on paper employ gouache, watercolor and pencil in abstract and Suprematist compositions.
