Summary:
Louis Comfort Tiffany for Tiffany Studios, double student desk lamp, originally configured as an oil lamp and later converted for electric use. We attribute the bronze base to Louis Comfort Tiffany for Tiffany Studios. Tiffany Studios produced similar student lamp models, and single-light converted oil lamps of this design are more frequently encountered.

An identical lamp base bearing a signed base plate reading ‘Tiffany Studios’ and a model number has previously been sold by Toomey and was cataloged as Tiffany Studios. Based upon comparison with that example and known Tiffany Studios lamps of the same design, construction, and decorative elements, we are satisfied that the present lamp base is by Tiffany Studios.

The two art glass shades are believed to be later vintage additions in the Tiffany style, possibly by Steuben, and are not represented as original to the lamp.

The unusual double-light configuration is particularly noteworthy. We believe it is possible that this example represents an early or prototype variation of the design and may benefit from further study.

This is a NO RESERVE lot. There are no hidden or confidential reserves. All acceptable bidding begins at the published online START PRICE.
