THE FALL EXCEPTIONELLE SALE DAY 2
Lot 817:
Description
Keywords: Center Table, Bronze, Hand-Painted Porcelain, Van Willams, Winged Female Sphinx, Classical Figures, Gilt Bronze, Viennese Style, Pedestal Table, Decorative Arts
Summary:
Royal Vienna or style center table. Museum Quality hand-painted porcelain with gilt bronze mountings. The circular porcelain top features an exceptional hand-painted classical interior scene depicting three elegantly dressed female figures and is signed Van Willams. The border is richly decorated with gilt ornamentation and classical motifs, enclosed by a pierced bronze gallery.
The table is supported by a matching porcelain pedestal with gilt decoration, terminating in an elaborate gilt bronze base with four winged female sphinx guardian figures.
Note: We did not remove the tabletop or disassemble the base to inspect for factory marks or signatures. However, based on the quality of the porcelain decoration, bronze casting, and overall craftsmanship, we are comfortable attributing this to be Royal Vienna. We believe additional factory marks or signatures are likely to be found on the underside of the porcelain top or the pedestal base.
