Charcoal on paper sketch of a sculpture Wilfrid Zogbaum designed.

Artist Bio: Wilfrid Zogbaum was a modernist painter who later gained recognition as a sculptor. He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and Yale School of Art, drawing influence from mentors like John Sloan and Hans Hofmann. Zogbaum’s work evolved through exposure to European art during a Guggenheim Fellowship, where he met influential figures such as Ben Nicholson and Wassily Kandinsky. After serving in World War II, he turned to photography and later dedicated himself to art, focusing on abstract painting and sculpture. His sculptures, made from found objects and machine parts, reflected his interest in nature and abstraction. Zogbaum taught at various universities and became known for his innovative use of materials and integration of nature into his works.
