Liubov Popova was born in 1889, the second child and eldest daughter of the rich and philanthropically inclined owner of a textile factory. The creator of what she termed "Painterly Architectonics" and "Painterly Constructions, " Popova remains one of the most important female figures in Russian Modernism. As a young woman, she traveled to France, Italy, and throughout her native Russia.
