Summary:
Marcel Dyf (French, 1899–1985), large oil on board still life painting depicting an arrangement of white daffodils in an earthenware jug, set against richly patterned textiles. The softly modeled flowers and vessel contrast with the colorful decorative fabric surrounding the composition.
Dyf was a French painter known for floral still lifes, landscapes, and figural subjects. His work reflects the influence of French Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, particularly the luminous color and painterly approach associated with Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Dyf subsequently developed a distinctive style characterized by warm color, soft light, and expressive brushwork.
Signed ‘Dyf’ lower right. First half of the 20th century.
